British Garden Centres recently announced the acquisition of Hayes Garden World. This activity further strengthens the former’s position as the UK’s leading garden centre operator. British Garden Centres now operates 73 centres nationwide, with eight stores having joined the business since the beginning of 2025.
Hayes Garden World has been a well-known operator in the Lake District since the early 19th century. The business has evolved from a small nursery into one of northern England's premier garden centres. It will take the name of Hayes Garden Centre, honouring the reputation of the family-owned business.
'One family to another'
Martin Capell, owner of Hayes Garden World, said: “We are delighted to be handing the reigns of Hayes over from one family to another. We would like to thank our wonderful customers for their business over the decades and our loyal team, both past and present, for all their hard work, leadership, commitment and friendship.
