St Peter's Garden Centre wins the Afternoon Tea of the Year Award

St Peter’s Garden Centre, the winner of the Garden Centre Catering Afternoon Tea of the Year Award, also offers a first class family day out

The Winner of the Afternoon Tea Award of the Year is St Peter’s Garden Centre, Broomhill, Worcester,  a family-run garden centre offering plants, gardening equipment, homeware and a wide range of garden furniture and BBQs, St Peter’s Garden Centre first started in 1978 when experienced horticulturist Tony Blake and his wife Janet spotted a disused pig farm and decided that it was the perfect spot to set up their own production nursery. Following a lot of very hard work to renovate the land, the nursery was established and sold the plants it grew to landscapers, property developers and councils throughout the UK. With the nursery thriving and land to spare, the next obvious step was to build a garden centre so that the plants grown by the nursery could also be sold direct to the public.

The rest, as they say, is history. Now run by William Blake, representing the second generation of the Blake family, St Peter’s has grown to include an onsite butcher and farm shop, and The Potting Shed, an award winning-restaurant that was originally located in the pig farm’s old weaning shed. Now following many extensions, The Potting Shed, which serves hand-crafted dishes using home-grown vegetables and meat from the butchers' shop, has earned its reputation for serving hearty breakfasts, tasty lunches and magnificent homemade cakes.

But the eating experience doesn’t just stop there. There are multiple outdoor spaces for visitors to explore, including Poppy’s Farm, Oliver’s Allotment, a nature trail and a lake complete with a lakeside hide for observing wildlife. This is also where visitors can find Poppy’s Café, which serves lunches, snacks and cakes and a splendid yurt, which can be booked for both corporate and family events and which also hosts truly sensational afternoon teas. St Peter’s is not so much a garden centre, more a complete family day out, which was the clinching factor that won favour with the judging panel.

Garden Centre Catering offers its warmest congratulations to the catering team at St Peter's Garden Centre.

St. Peter's Garden Centre will feature in the Summer issue of Garden Centre Catering
